DYSTEN has successfully completed the delivery and installation of electronic dynamic passenger information displays at bus stops in Chrzanów, Trzebinia, and Libiąż.

The project was carried out following the successful tender for the second task of the investment titled “Construction and Modernization of the Bus Stop Infrastructure“, specifically the “Delivery and installation of electronic dynamic passenger information boards, including the construction of power connections and electrical installations for powering the boards and bus shelters.

As part of this initiative, electronic passenger information boards were installed at 28 bus stops within the operational area of ZKKM Chrzanów (the public transport organizer):

  • 9 boards in the Chrzanów Commune,
  • 11 boards in the Trzebinia Commune,
  • 8 boards in the Libiąż Commune.

Scope of work

The project encompassed not only the delivery and installation of dynamic passenger information devices but also the execution of essential construction and installation works. These included the creation of power connections and electrical installations to ensure the functionality of the entire bus stop infrastructure.

The scope of work included:

  • Delivery and installation of 28 single-sided RGB LED passenger information displays.
  • Installation of video surveillance systems.
  • Integration of the delivered boards with the kiedyPrzyjedzie.pl system owned by the Ordering Party.
  • Delivery of a central management system for controlling the operating parameters of the boards, along with dedicated devices.
  • Delivery and installation of foundations and load-bearing columns.
  • Execution of power connections and electrical installations supplying the boards.
  • Retrofitting 8 existing video surveillance boards.
  • Execution of electrical installations supplying bus shelters.

Real-Time Passenger Information

To ensure maximum comfort and safety for users, the locations of the dynamic passenger information boards were carefully planned so their displays are clearly visible to passengers waiting at the stops. Additionally, measures were taken to maintain an appropriate distance from the edge of the road, in compliance with applicable safety standards, ensuring unobstructed pedestrian movement.

All delivered boards operate using open protocols and communication interfaces, enabling seamless integration with the existing dynamic passenger information system – kiedyPrzyjedzie.pl. This allows the boards to work effortlessly with the current technical infrastructure, facilitating real-time data exchange and providing passengers with up-to-date information on bus arrivals and departures.
The system’s open architecture also ensures flexibility, supporting future expansions or modernizations as needed.

Clear messages for passengers

The passenger information boards installed as part of the modernization of the bus stop infrastructure for ZKKM in Chrzanów provide clear and accessible messages about upcoming bus departures, including:

  • Line number,
  • Course direction,
  • Vehicle attributes,
  • Departure time.

Line directions are displayed as horizontally scrolling text, while special messages can appear on the bottom line of the board. Vehicle attributes are presented using graphic icons corresponding to the specific vehicle information displayed, such as:

  • Adapted for disabled passengers,
  • Buses,
  • Minibuses,
  • Electric buses,
  • Ticket machines,
  • Wi-Fi availability,
  • Bicycle transport options.

The boards are also capable of displaying full-screen graphical and text messages, allowing the transmission of a variety of data in a clear and visually engaging way. The design of the devices has been designed in a way consistent with the already functioning boards.

RGB LED technology with high-brightness LEDs with wide viewing angles enables full clarity of content in all weather and sunlight conditions. In addition, the external anti-reflective coating used on the screens eliminates reflections, which ensures trouble-free reading of the presented information.

Ambient light sensors installed in devices automatically adjust the display brightness to changing outdoor conditions, such as ambient light or time of day. The sensors do not react to the lights of passing cars, which eliminates short-term changes in the brightness of the devices and ensures image stability. The inclination of the board surfaces relative to the vertical has been designed to ensure more comfortable reading of information by passengers.

Durability and Safety

With an IP54 rating, the devices are resistant to corrosion, moisture, rainfall, and dust, effectively protecting the internal electronic components from damage. Their internal structure prevents water vapor from accumulating or condensing. The boards are also impact-resistant, meeting IK08 standards for external mechanical protection.

Each board is equipped with surveillance cameras, and similar cameras were installed on eight existing devices as part of this project. To ensure efficient management of the new equipment, training sessions were conducted for users, covering the operation of both the devices and the dedicated software.

Comprehensive Technical and Infrastructure Support

As part of the project, dispatch software was provided for managing the boards. This software enables users to easily send messages to the devices and monitor the current operational status of the boards.

The software includes a graphic marking function that updates the status of the boards in real time, allowing for seamless tracking of their performance. The system detects any irregularities immediately, enabling quick identification and resolution of faults or failures.

The task also included carrying out a number of construction works necessary for the proper functioning of the dynamic passenger information system. Power wiring was carried out, connections and electrical installations supplying power to the boards were made.

The investment titled “Construction and Modernization of Bus Stop Infrastructure” was co-financed by the Government Fund “Polish Deal”. The primary objective of the project is to enhance the attractiveness of public transport, directly contributing to an improved quality of life for residents. Furthermore, the investment positively impacts environmental protection by supporting the reduction of exhaust emissions.

One of the key elements of efficient and effective public transport is modern and reliable passenger information. Thanks to precisely communicated, up-to-date data, passengers can make it easier to decide on public transport.
